Petroleum Jilly Strikes Again!
There's something not quite right about the above picture. Can you guess what it is? She does look unnaturally shiny....
It all started Friday, while I was on the computer, catching up on blogs and what have you. Jilly was playing around her room, and honestly, I wasn't paying that much attention. Next thing I know, this is looking up at me:
Uh oh. I look past her to see this:
OH NO!!! Petroleum Jilly has struck again! And this time, I was 5 feet from her! I am a dope.
It was insane how much vaseline she had glopped onto her face and head. It was so thick! And it pretty much covered her entire head and hands, but miraculously didn't get any on her pajamas. Oh geez, now to clean it all up. As you may know, and as I stated in my previous Petroleum Jilly blog, vaseline is quite difficult to clean up. It being an oil based product, therefore not mixing with water, leaves you very few options in how to remove it from your baby's hair and face. But I started a bath for her anyway. It just seemed like the thing to do.
Now keep in mind, I am laughing hysterically throughout this entire thing. I also made sure to take pictures, because I just had to show it. While the bath was running, Jilly tried to play with the water and I was able to get some shots of her hair. I had never seen her hair look like that...
If you look close at the bottom part (i.e. where she hadn't gotten the vaseline) you'll see she's getting curls! Yup, MY baby has CURLY HAIR! I am just tickled over it. :-) And they're real curls too (thanks to Grandpa Mike's genes)!
Because she had so much vaseline on that face of hers, when she started splashing, the water just beaded on her face and stuck there. So she had all these little balls of water all over her face. When the light caught it, they'd turn white, giving her a rather creepy look. ;-)
I washed her hair three times in the bath that morning. After ward, I washed it another two times, with Palmolive (it's a de-greaser, right?). But her hair was still sticky and gross. I was disappointed because we were going out to dinner with friends, and I wanted her to be extra cute. Oh well, whatcha gonna do?
That night we got home from our outing and Jilly and I were hanging out while Steve was on the computer. At one point, I had to go to the bathroom, so I put Steve in charged of watching her. I came out a few minutes later to find Jilly had gotten into a different and bigger tub of vaseline and was promptly squishing her hands in it! Oh my freaking gosh child!!! Luckily, it was just her hands and we were able to clean it up without further incident. I joked to Steve that we need to get a safe for our important documents AND the vaseline. ;-)
Steve gave her a bath the next day and managed to get the rest of it out. But oh my, it was a LOT of vaseline. I've learned that if I want something completely thrown away, where there is NO chance of Jilly finding it, it has to go into the Diaper Champ, where there is a lid and she can't open. I've learned, she needs to be caged in her crib or the ExerSaucer, if I want some time without worrying about her getting into things. You'd think I'd have known these things before, and you're right, I just hadn't put them into practice all the time. I think I'm over that...
